Asthma

Asthma is a chronic disease characterized by inflammation of parts of the respiratory system which limits the amount of oxygen that gets to the lungs. Asthma is often comorbid with other conditions, including allergies, rhinitis, sinusitis, obstructive sleep apnea and gastroesophageal reflux disease.

According to the GINA guidelines, symptoms of asthma may include:

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
  • A sensation of tightness in the chest
  • Coughing
  • Wheezing
  • Excess mucus production

Although there is no cure for asthma, the compassionate doctors available on SwiftMD can help you manage your asthma. In a house call the doctor will examine you in your home where they are better able to determine potential in-home, outdoor, drug-related and other triggers for your asthma. They will also take a detailed medical history to identify if your asthma is comorbid with another medical condition. They will provide a comprehensive treatment plan to minimize the chances of an asthma attack or flare-up and help you develop goals for managing your asthma.

Your doctor may prescribe an inhaler, epinephrine pen, or other medications to manage your asthma symptoms. At the doctor’s discretion, they may also draw blood and send it to the lab for further testing or refer you to a specialist for further evaluation and treatment.

If you have asthma book a SwiftMD house call.
